On Wednesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government will formalize a new deal that will guarantee stability and raise the standard of the university educational system.
The Ministry of Education made this announcement on Sunday.
According to the release, Maruf Alausa, the Minister of Education, and Suwaiba Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education, will preside over the ceremony, which will take place at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Conference Hall in Maitama, Abuja.
This development follows the union’s previous 14-day ultimatum.
After lengthy negotiations between ASUU and the FG, the strike was subsequently called off before it started.
The ministry claimed that the new deal demonstrated the government’s dedication to positive interactions with important stakeholders and to settling labor conflicts via communication, understanding, and cooperation.
The statement went on to say that years of interaction between the FG and ASUU to resolve labor concerns preceded the formalization of the accord.
According to the ministry, the agreement is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which acknowledges education as a key factor in socioeconomic transformation, human capital expansion, and national development.
“This is expected to further enhance industrial peace, create a more conducive academic environment, and reinforce confidence among students, university staff, and the wider public.
“The agreement unveiling will bring together senior government officials, ASUU representatives, heads of tertiary institutions, development partners, and members of the media,” the statement said.
