A Delta State High Court sitting in Ibusa has sentenced two men, Ojerbo Solomon and Ola Babatunde, to death by hanging after a protracted trial that lasted eight years.
Justice M.O. Omovie delivered the judgment, convicting the duo of murder, armed robbery, and rape.
According to the prosecution, led by Mr. E.H. Edema, the defendants committed the crimes on February 8, 2016, breaking into the victims’ house with guns, cutlasses, and knives. They raped the victims, slit their throats, and escaped on a motorcycle, leaving one survivor, Mr. Praise Sunday, but claiming the lives of his mother and sister.
The defendants denied the allegations, but the prosecution’s evidence proved their guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Omovie ruled, “The two defendants are hereby sentenced to death by hanging.” The verdict brings closure to a traumatic incident that occurred eight years ago.
