Tragedy struck in Dahjonu community, Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday night as bandits invaded the area, abducting two journalists, their wives, and children.
The victims include Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, and Blueprint newspaper’s AbdulRaheem Abdu.
According to Taofeeq Olayemi, a family member of one of the victims, the bandits stormed the community around 10:30 pm, shooting indiscriminately before carrying out the kidnappings.
Alabelewe, his wife, and two children were taken away, while Abdu and his wife, who was sick, were also kidnapped, leaving behind their sick daughter.
The bandits reportedly shattered doors and windows, removed burglary proofs, and scaled fences to gain access to the victims’ homes.
Vigilantes arrived at the scene, shooting into the air, but the bandits had already escaped with their victims.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comments as his telephone line was not connecting at the time of filing this report.
