The Nigerian Labour Party is drawing inspiration from the historic victory of its UK counterpart in the recent general election.
The UK Labour Party’s landslide win, which saw it secure a parliamentary supermajority, has buoyed the spirits of the Nigerian party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Hon. Afam Ogene, leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, the UK election serves as a tonic for the party, demonstrating that positive change is possible when people come together with a unified objective.
Ogene congratulated Sir Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party on their success, noting that the election was a victory not just for the British opposition but for all believers in democratic transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
He praised the UK’s electoral process, which he described as free of glitches, transparent, and accountable, and urged Nigeria’s electoral umpires, INEC, to emulate the example set by their UK counterparts.
Ogene called on the Nigerian Labour Party to draw inspiration from their British counterparts, close ranks, rally the people, and prepare to take the reins of power in 2027
