In a bid to promote harmonious relationships among youths in the Federal Capital Territory, the Abuja Residents Youth Association has declared a Week of Peace, starting on August 11.
The association’s president, Mr. Akoshile Mukhtar, made this known at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Mukhtar emphasized that the initiative aims to foster peace and unity among the youth, distancing the association from the ongoing nationwide protest against hunger, hardship, and poor governance. He outlined various activities planned for the week, including a peace walk, peace talks, prayer sessions, and other events to promote harmony and understanding.
The Week of Peace, according to Mukhtar, will serve as a reminder of the association’s commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Abuja. He commended the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for his proactive approach in addressing youth grievances and initiating developmental strides that have transformed Abuja.
Mukhtar urged all youths to embrace peace and dialogue, rejecting violence and chaos. He emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue in achieving inclusive governance and urged the youth to work together to foster unity and collaboration.
The association’s president also commended the FCT minister for initiating town hall meetings, which have bridged the gap between the government and the youth. He urged the minister to sustain such engagements, ensuring that the youth’s voices are heard and concerns addressed in a timely and effective manner.
