The Lagos State Government has made an impassioned plea to its youths to consider enrolling in the military, emphasizing the crucial role they play in national security.
Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made this appeal during the quarterly meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja, stressing that security is everyone’s responsibility.
Salu-Hundeyin highlighted the importance of youth participation in the military, citing the Federal Government’s directive that each state receive equal representation with 150 slots available. Unfortunately, Lagos State has been underrepresented in the military, with few indigenous youths enrolling. This lack of participation not only short-changes the state but also undermines national security.
“The military is about the security of a nation, and the security of any nation must be everybody’s business,” Salu-Hundeyin emphasized. “It should not be for a particular group only, but because everybody cannot wear uniform, the government, in its wisdom, now says those of you that want to do this job, you will apply.” She lamented that Lagos State youths have shown little interest in joining the military, urging them to reconsider and recognize the value of serving their state and nation.
In related news, the Lagos State Government has launched initiatives to empower youths, including the Lagos State Specialized ICT Training program, which aims to equip 200 unemployed youths with cutting-edge skills. Additionally, the state’s Ministry of Youth and Social Development has rehabilitated destitute children and provided support for mentally challenged individuals. These efforts demonstrate the government’s commitment to youth development and empowerment.
By joining the military, Lagos State youths can contribute to national security, gain valuable experience, and serve their state and nation. The government’s plea is a call to action, encouraging youths to seize this opportunity and make a positive impact.
