At least 20 travellers were kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday evening along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, with one victim shot in the knee.
The ambush occurred between the Sagamu Area Command and Ilisan township, according to Wemmy Osude, Chairman of Ilisan Development Council.
Osude confirmed that the injured victim, a resident of Ilisan Remo, is receiving medical attention at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. “Information reaching me confirms a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate. A resident of Ilisan was shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital,” Osude said.
The chairman added that he has spoken to the victim, who is in stable condition, and has also informed the Sagamu Area Commander about the incident. “We trust that all security agents will go after these criminals and rescue these people,” Osude said.
This incident follows the recent abduction of two others and the murder of Prof Yinka Olomojobi, a professor of human rights and gender law at Babcock University, Ilisan Remo. Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful.
