Afrobeats sensation Rema has shared a candid account of how his father’s passing forced him to grow up too quickly and sacrifice his childhood.
In a recent interview with GRM, the 24-year-old artist expressed his desire to “feel young again” and break free from the pressures of fame.
Rema revealed that he started smoking cigarettes as a way to cope with the stress of adulthood and feel more carefree. However, he lamented that even this decision is scrutinized due to his celebrity status.
He shared, “I really wanted to feel like a child again… I feel like I grew up too fast. Life switched up on me crazy when I lost my dad and my brother. The weight was just on my shoulder and forced me to sell my childhood to provide for my family.”
Rema’s latest project, “HeIs,” is an attempt to recapture his lost youth and embrace his rebellious side. He hopes to make mistakes and learn from them without the constant scrutiny of the public eye.
